“There is virtue in work and there is virtue in rest. Use both and overlook neither” –…
“I have witnessed the ever-growing journey of LPU since I was the Education Minister of Punjab and I am more than happy to see that the seed sown has now grown into a tree which is transforming the lives of many females” – says the Vice Chairperson of Planning Board of Punjab, Mrs. Rajinder Kaur Bhattal.
Lovely Professional University (LPU) has enshrined the principles of empowering women and is out there shouting success stories of its female students. From organising interactive sessions by strong women leaders to having a Student Entrepreneur Cell, LPU has left no corner untouched in contributing towards creating the most powerful women of the country.
Talking about the success stories, be it Tanya Arora, Computer Science Engineering student who bagged INR 42 lakh with the world’s leading tech-giant Microsoft or Rubiya Khursheed, young scientist who represented the university at the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) 2018 PharmSci 360 held in Texas, females are all set to raise the success bar and become an example for prospective students.
Along with brilliant infrastructure, practical teaching environment and strong alumni background of LPU attract many industry leaders. Owing to this, world IT leader, Google has opened its first all-women developer network at the university. The group will be called Google Developer Group Women (GDGW) and mentored by the already existing Google Developers Group at LPU.
This chapter is aimed at empowering women in the technology sector and enable passionate women to develop and work on new technologies.
Taking a break from the academic engagements, LPU’s star-athletes Sonu Kumari, Manju Rani has brought glory to the country by showing applaudable achievements at the 35th National Junior Athletics Championship 2019 and Women’s World Boxing Championship, respectively.
Scripting history in her maiden appearance, Manju made to the finals of the Championship with a 4-1 win over her strong ‘Thai’ opponent. Manju Rani not only equated country’s established boxer Mary Kom’s ‘Worlds debut’ record but also scaled ahead of her by winning Silver in comparison to Mary’s Bronze medal in this edition. Out of four Indian competitors in different weight categories, Manju is the only Indian to reach finals in Russia.
Celebrating the success of its girl population, LPU had also hosted North India’s biggest women entrepreneurship event “The Enterprising SHE”. Many renowned women entrepreneurs of the country attended the event and motivated the budding entrepreneurs at LPU. It was a day-long activity where budding entrepreneurs got the opportunity to enrol their business ideas at the university’s Student Entrepreneurship Cell (SEC). The best ideas were then provided with initial funding to kick start their businesses.
Another big event that glorified the empowering women at LPU was Women Science Congress. The aim of the entire event was to showcase the contribution of women in Science, Technology and the Society.
“I have come to join this largest conclave only as a female and not as a Minister. Like many renowned women-scientists of India and the world, more and more women should knock & open new doors to enter the world of science, engineering and creation” – said, the embodiment of women empowerment Mrs. Smriti Zubin Irani who inaugurated this event held at LPU campus.
Lamenting on the fact that the percentage of female scientists among the total count of scientists in the world is far less, Smrity unheld it as a challenge to women. She further praised LPU for pondering on the exponential growth of girls.
Females today are up out there leading their lives worrying less about fitting into the glass shoe and more about shattering the glass ceiling. LPU is leaving no stone unturned in helping such students live their dreams and thereby transforming India.
